WAS ZU TUN

Taking a stroll, by foot, or by bicycle, it is possible to watch the different species of flowers and grapes as they blossom, and to watch the harvest grow. The farmhouse is surrounded by the finest natural beauty, every direction you turn offers picturesque views and even scenes of woodland that appear almost untouched. The farmhouse is set in the middle of our vineyard and it is here, during the months of September and October, that the main part of the harvesting process unfolds. We produce our wines using traditional methods, taking care to respect the environment at all times during this process. Upon visiting us, it is possible to follow this age old practice and enjoy the beauty of a long tradition in wine production as it unfolds before your eyes. There is also the opportunity to taste our fine products! For those of you who love the outdoors and are a bit more active, there are also a variety of activities on offer such as hiking, mountain-biking through the beautiful scenery and pass times such as bird watching.

If that is not enough for and you seek more adventure still, a few short kilometres from our farmhouse there is situated an Avioclub that allows you to take a small plane journey over the entire picturesque valley so you can have a better opportunity to appreciate the beautiful views. However, if the more active side is not for you and your intention is more of a relaxing break, there is also a very calming swimming area where you can enjoy the benefits of our thermal baths (S.Albino, Chianciano) and heated swimming-pool (Bagni S.Filippo e Bagno Vignoni) Those who are more aware of the Tuscany’s past will be aware of it’s rich history. However, for those of you that do not, visitors soon discover just how unique and clothed in history our wine is. The world of wine production in Tuscany has withstood numerous and wide changes over the last thirty years and become much stronger in comparison to all the other Italian regions. In particular, one must single out the Chianti, which has stood for generations and been awarded at international level. There is even a renowned story behind the history of the Chianti, around the time of the 1600’s and again in 1716, when the Grand Duke of Tuscany created specific limits to the Chianti region, due to the fact that other Italian regions were trying to reproduce a wine similar to the Chianti. Another distinctive period in the history of this fine wine was also the sixties, when it represented Italy as ambassador to the rest of the world, being so distinctive in its appearance with a bottle with a base of straw (fiasco).

The wine itself had a tendency during this period in its production to appear a little dry and tasteless at times. Very few producers understood the right combination of factors to enable the production of this fine Tuscan wine. The Chianti demonstrate great qualities that can potentially be exploited in favourable grounds like the one of Montalcino, Montepulciano and Carmignano. Today, with the world of wine production expanding, there is much being produced internationally that may pose a potential threat to the status of the Chianti. And whilst the Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay are world renowned and considered some of the greatest wines in the world, there is nothing as great as the Sangiovese which offers such great potential as a wine that they is no other worthy to compete with this fine Tuscan production. The Wine "Nobile di Montepulciano" came from the vineyards of the Val d'Orcia Hills and of Valdichiana. This wine is of ancient origin, as early as XVII century it was known as the favoured drink of the nobles and lords, hence its given name, “Nobile di Montepulciano”.

Today, even thought it is now available to all to try, this wine has conserved it's fame and it's noble spirit. From 1989 the Nobile has become DOC (denomination of checked origin and guarantied). In the last fifteen years the legacy of the wine of Montepulciano has been evaluated and protected so much that the Vino Nobile has become one of the most precious Italian wines. It's composition has been prescribed to the law and foresee an 80% of Sangiovese, an 10-20% of Canaiolo Nero and other wines of the zone. It must be left for two year in a barrel of oak in order to age. The colour is purple with a blend of orange (caused by the aging). It has a distinctive, quite intense scent of violets and is a little on the dry side to the taste and a little bit tannic. The minimum gradation of the alcohol is 12,5°. The best way to enjoy this wine to its fullest is to accompany it with fowl, savage and seasoned Cheeses.
